SAPICS (The Association for Operations Management of South Africa) has announced that the theme of the 35th Annual SAPICS Conference and Exhibition (hosted from 2 to 4 June 2013 at Sun City) will be “Design for Change: Supply Chain Solutions for a Dynamic World.” The association is calling upon supply chain and operations management professionals to submit all proposals for presentations to be considered before Friday, 11th January 2013 The economy is becoming increasingly globalised and, as a result, innovative supply chain management is central to commercial survival. Change in the way supply chains are managed, is both necessary and inevitable. Delegates at the conference are seeking solutions to manage their supply chains effectively during this dynamic time. The business arena is currently confronted by the third global supply chain transformation of the past century. The first era of enterprise supply chain globalisation was the era of vertical integration which was catalysed by The Ford Motor Company in the 1920s. The second era was called the era of “viral virtualisation”, a term borrowed from virtual marketing, suggesting that outsourcing increases exponentially. The next era, the era of revitalised command has already begun. In spite of the risks it involves, change should never be regarded as negative. The common law in business is that change equals growth. By learning from each other, we minimise risk and assure that growth happens at an exponential rate. The SAPICS Annual Conference, now in its 35th year, is the perfect platform for the sharing of professional experiences (both the successes and the failures), business cases and research findings For more information on the relevant terms and conditions pertaining to the applications visit the SAPICS website (www.sapics.org.za) or contact Cindy Lee Vosloo by email to cindyl@upavon.co.za.SAPICS is the South African custodian of two internationally accredited certification programmes from APICS – Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) and Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP). The association’s education offerings are aimed at advancing industry’s ability to succeed in a changing and increasingly competitive market place. SAPICS is committed to the development of a vibrant community of educated supply chain professionals throughout Africa and the world.
