Mafex trade delegation to South Africa | Infrastructure news

The Spanish Railway Association Mafex has organised a trade delegation in South Africa with the aim of exploring new business opportunities for the Spanish railway sector in the development of new infrastructures and the modernisation of the country’s transport networks.

The delegation got in touch with members of the country’s railway administrations, among which were public operators Prasa (passenger) and Transnet Freight Rail (freight) as well as the Government’s Transport Department.

According to the study carried out by the Commercial Office of the Spain Embassy in South Africa, the government of the country anticipates that in the future public transport and especially large freight logistics flows will be based on the railway.

The South Africa Government plans to readjust current infrastructures and equip them with resources to provide railway coverage for all the population, as well as to promote the use of the railway as the mode of transport for travelling across the country. The efforts will initially focus on the city and commuter lines, which will involve over two million trips every day.
