Building rubble banned at Simmer and Jack | Infrastructure news

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality wishes to inform residents and business owners in Germiston that the Simmer and Jack landfill site shall no longer accept building rubble and soil for disposal. The landfill site is nearing its lifespan and in order to conserve the available airspace, the site has had to cut down to receiving 15 000 tonnes of waste per month (instead of the previous 30 000 tonnes).

Alternative sites which may be used for disposing building rubble are as follows:

  • Rooikraal – Corner of Barry Marais and Rondebult Roads, Boksburg
  • Weltevreden – Main Reef Road, Brakpan
  • Platkop – Corner N3 and R550, Vosloorus
  • Rietfontein – Tonk Meter Road, Springs

“The EMM apologises for any inconvenience caused and also appeals to the community to cooperate and refrain from dumping illegally around the landfill site,” said EMM spokesperson, Sam Modiba.
