Beefing up technical skills | Infrastructure news

The passenger and commercial vehicle division of Eqstra Holdings, a JSE- listed company, has ‘adopted’ the Pretoria Technical School and Kempton Park’s Rhodesfield Technical School to ensure that South Africa’s much- needed technical skills are developed. Both these institutions are training learners to become productive future members of South Africa’s work force.

There is an urgent need within South Africa for technical skills, which are currently at an alarmingly low level,” said Jacqui Carr, CEO of Eqstra’s Passenger and Commercial Vehicles division. “Eqstra as a group is committed to making a real impact in the technical training sphere in order, to ensure that South Africa has the skills it needs to meet its economic development objectives and to play a leading role in up-skilling learners.”

The sponsorship of Rhodesfield Technical High School amounts to R478 000 and the investment made in Pretoria Technical School amounts to R344 000, which will be used to improve learner education and the purchase of equipment, as well as offering scholarships for disadvantaged students.
