Webster Mfebe, who was appointed executive director of the South African Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors (SAFCEC) on 1 January 2013, is well qualified to take the organisation to a new level. Before joining SAFCEC, Mfebe was executive director: stakeholder relations at construction company Basil Read between October 2009 and March 2012, and also served as a non-executive director of TWP. Between March and December 2012, Webster was MD of his own company, Phendula Consulting. Mfebe maintains that his main focus is to align SAFCEC’s mission with the current trends in the civil engineering.

“We are looking forward to a number of civil engineering projects that could come from renewable energy projects.”

New power stations, PRASA, Transnet and Sanral are expected to bring renewed growth to civil engineering.

“The strategic infrastructure projects and improved budget spend that the government has planned for middle 2013 will hopefully see tenders awarded in a more efficient and fair manner, with contractors able to deliver on time and within budget, ”says Mfebe
