Malibongwe Ridge sod turning started | Infrastructure news

Basil Read Developments, a division of Basil Read, has broken ground on the Malibongwe Ridge development, adjacent to its Cosmo City development, North-West of Johannesburg CBD.

The R1,85 billion affordable housing project is being developed for the Gauteng Department of Local Government and Housing and the City of Johannesburg by Codevco, a subsidiary of Basil Read. Malibongwe Ridge will provide housing for over 5 500 families in a sustainable mixed use, integrated development. The scope of work includes 3 240 low-income housing units with rental rooms; 244 low-income freestanding houses; 669 finance-linked, partially subsidised (GAP) houses; 604 bonded houses and 754 rental/social housing units.

Gerhard Roos, development manager explains, “The development will not only provide affordable housing, but also other amenities and facilities such as churches, clinics, open parks, schools, commercial and retail opportunities, in accordance with the government’s ‘Breaking New Ground’ strategy”.

The entire development is anticipated to be completed within five years.
