Eskom has stated that it is working hard on planned maintenance on its system.
Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba has warned the system will come under strain over the next few months. Eskom has been hit by a rash of problems in recent weeks, including an unprotected strike at one of its significant coal suppliers which put the national grid under pressure. Another contributing factor was a damaged transmission line from the CahoraBassa Dam in Mozambique. Unit 1 of the Koeberg Power Station is also under repair at the moment.
