Reducing traffic congestion at the Port of Maputo | Infrastructure news

Reducing truck congestion along the N4 at the Port of Maputo’s gate Number 1 is critical for allowing a faster truck turn-around time.

Work is underway to widen the trucks access to the port: in addition to the two truck lanes (one for entering and one for exciting) currently serving the port an additional four lanes are being constructed. When the project is complete there will be two lanes for trucks entering the port and four exit lanes.

The port is also installing booths, similar to toll-gates, which will improve the process for handling the documentation at the gate which will also reduce the waiting time in both directions.

The main road from Gate 1 servicing the port is also being fully rehabilitated to enable a more efficient traffic flow.

The project is scheduled to be completed in August at an approximate total cost of two million US dollars.
