Any person wanting to submit an abstract for Landfill 2013, which will be co-hosted by the Landfill Interest Group (LIG) of the IWMSA’s Central branch and the Geosynthetics Interest Group of South Africa (GIGSA) on 16 and 17 October 2013 at the Misty Hills Conference Centre in Muldersdrift, Johannesburg, needs to act fast as the closing date for abstracts – 26 April 2013 – rapidly approaches.
According to the Institute of Waste Management Southern Africa (IWMSA), papers are sought in line with the overall theme – “effective environmental protection from the residues of modern civilization” – but focusing on barrier design, case studies, policy and planning and leachate and effluent management. This aims to include general waste, hazardous waste, industrial waste (slags and so forth), power station residues and mining residues.“The conference hopes to draw both local and international speakers to cover topics related to design and engineering of waste disposal and mine residue facilities. It is a continuation of a conference series that was originated in the Western Cape LIG and which has been successfully hosted every second year since 1997.”
An international invited guest speaker, Dr George Koerner of the Geosynthetic Institute based in Folsom, Pennsylvania, USA will present the keynote address on the first day and will conduct a short course on 18 of October 2013.
