It was all smiles recently as Gauteng MEC for Housing, Ms Ntombi Mekgwe, handed the award for Best Scholarship Student in Engineering and the Built Environment to Whelan Naidoo, graduate civil engineer in SRK Consulting’s Water Department.

The presentation was made at a gala dinner celebrating the Gauteng Province’s Govan Mbeki Awards, held at Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park to highlight excellence in the field of housing and development.

Whelan Naidoo obtained his degree at the University of Pretoria, where he was also honoured with the prize for the top graduating civil engineering student. He joined SRK in January.

“We congratulate Whelan on this fine achievement so early in his career,” said SRK managing director Peter Labrum. “It is no doubt the result of his sustained commitment and hard work. We are pleased to attract young people of his calibre in our organisation.”

The Govan Mbeki Awards promote best practice and foster healthy competition among service providers who go the extra mile to deliver quality.
