Whether suppliers of lotions, make-up, intravenous drips or medicines, pharmaceutical and personal care manufacturers around the world rely on ultra-pure and sanitised water to ensure shelf-life and that products are safe for use by humans. As the world’s largest supplier of pharmaceutical water treatment plants – with more installations globally than any other treatment company – VeoliaWater Solutions & Technologies supplies some of the most innovative systems that turn typical tap water into a pharmaceutical-grade ingredient. Systems are available for each of the industry’s recognised water standards, depending on the grade of compendial water as well as the Pharmacopoeia Monographs: purified water, highly purified water, and Water for Injection (WFI). Products include the Veolia-developed ORION™ flagship packaged system, featuring a standard capacity of up to 10 000 litres per hour. It consists of a basic process train including duplex softening, cartridge filtration, reverse osmosis and Continuous Electro Deionisation (CEDI) technology, and complies with all the relevant water quality regulations. ORION™ comes standard with 80 configuration options to suit any customer requirement, while larger Orion™ capacities are available on request. The ORION™ UF option is suitable for producing highly purified water.ORION™ introduces TTS, or Total Thermal Sanitation, which maintains a temperature of between 80° C and 85° C throughout the hot water sanitisation process; spanning pre-treatment to production feed.
Other systems available with similar process technology include the TRITON, a purified water production unit with an integrated storage and distribution system capable of producing up to 350 litres per hour of purified water. IonPro LX is capable of producing up to 1 000 litres per hour of purified water, and the QUATTRO is capable of producing up to 3 000 litres per hour of purified water. To supplement the mentioned range of products, Veolia offers the POLARIS range of equipment which includes Multiple Effect Distillation (MED), Vapour Compression Distillation (VCD), as well as Clean Steam Generation (CSG) systems. The POLARIS MED and VCD units produce water meeting the requirements for Water for Injection. Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies South Africa adapts each pharmaceutical water treatment technology to suit the local water standards and final quality requirements. Service and backup is available nationally, further ensuring optimal water purification and standards.
