Leaking pipe in Kwamashu interrupts supply | Infrastructure news

The Water and Sanitation Unit (EWS) has discovered a 300 diameter pipe which is leaking in KwaMashu J, Mdoni Road and as there is an electrical substation built on top of the diameter pipe, it cannot be repaired immediately, according to a statement released by the  eThekwini Municipality’s Communications Unit on Monday 20 May 2013.

“This main supplies major parts of KwaMashu. As such, the Municipality has been forced to shutdown the water and electricity supply in most parts of KwaMashu. The areas affected are KwaMashu-L, M, N, J, G, F and H.

“The Electricity Unit together with EWS have planned to relocate the electrical substation inorder to repair the water pipe on Tuesday 21 May 2013 . Repairs are estimated to take about 12 to 15 hours, and it will commence on Tuesday 21 May 2013 at 8:30 am,” said the statement.

It was envisaged that both water and electricity should be restored by 8:30 pm in the evening of Tuesday the 21 May 2013. While the water was interrupted to conduct the repair, water tankers were to be be sent to all affected areas.

In closing, the Municipality apologised for the inconvenience caused.
