“Pikitup is aware that the contingency plans introduced to mitigate the effects of the past weeks’ illegal strike have not been able to service all areas. We are treating the situation as a matter of urgency and would like to assure the public that we are working towards normalising operations across all depots,” said Pikitup GM: Communication and Stakeholder Management, Desiree Ntshingila, in a statement released by the City of Johannesburg’s official waste management service provider on Tuesday 23 July.
According to the statement, Ivory Park and Diepsloot were yet to be serviced due to intimidation by residents.Areas set for collection yesterday, 24 July, included Kyalamai Estate, Barbeque Downs and Kyalami Business Park for the Midrand Depot. The Randburg Depot also had a further 9 suburbs to service.
“Special effort is being made to collect all outstanding refuse and additional waste that cannot fit into the bins during the course of this week. Pikitup appreciates the patience and understanding of residents and business owners and apologises for the inconvenience caused by the disruptions,” concluded Ntshingila.
