Some members of staff of the City of Cape Town’s Solid Waste Management Department began this week by staging an illegal sit-in strike on Monday 19 August 2013 at the Schaapkraal Depot, according to Area Collections Head, Solid Waste Management Department, City of Cape Town, Tseko Magubane.
This is in the wake of a previous sit in staged on 15 August 2013 – not even a full week ago.“This has unfortunately affected refuse collection in the Two Oceans area, in the following suburbs: Constantia, Kirstenhof, Ottery, Grassy Park, Wynberg, Pelican Park, Cafda, Diep River, Pumlani, Seawinds, Hillview, Capricorn, Muizenberg, Plumstead, Fairways, and Wetton. The Solid Waste Management Department is making every effort to source resources from other areas to assist with the refuse collection beats.
“Residents are kindly requested to please leave their refuse bins out until the refuse has been collected. The City apologises for any inconvenience that this unforeseen sit-in has caused, but assures residents that it is doing its best to attend to any back-log,” said the official statement released by the City of Cape Town, Integrated Strategic Communication and Branding Department on Monday following the sit in.
