Aurecon is a Level 2 Contributor to BBBEE | Infrastructure news

Aurecon’s brand proposition, ‘Fostering Human Achievement’, expresses our philosophy that our technical and managerial resources should be used to develop not only innovative engineering solutions, but also sustainable solutions to socio-economic issues in the communities in which we operate.

“This fundamental belief is especially relevant to South Africa’s democracy as it endeavours to resolve historical inequalities,” comments Teddy Daka, Chairperson of Aurecon’s global holding company.

He goes on to say that the group’s commitment to Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE), a South African Government initiative driven by the Department of Trade and Industry (dti), demonstrates the group’s commitment to transformation.

“Aurecon South Africa has been verified as a Level 2 Contributor to BBBEE,” says Daka, going on to say: “This represents an improvement from the group’s previous rating, and is indicative of our on-going efforts to facilitate the development and participation of historically disadvantaged individuals, broaden the country’s economic base and stimulate economic growth and employment.”

Aurecon’s BBBEE initiatives are aligned with the Construction Sector Codes which is also a promulgated dti Code of Good Practice. These initiatives focus on the on-going transformation of equity ownership, management control and employment equity within Aurecon. A further focus is human resource development, with the emphasis on bursaries, experiential training, technical training and mentorship. In addition, Aurecon accelerates the development of local Black-owned companies through targeted preferential procurement and enterprise development. Investing into communities via numerous socio-economic development initiatives, too, is a key area of focus.

Barney Tsita, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aurecon South Africa, further adds: “We are extremely pleased with this rating, not least because it is a vital one in the business environment in which we operate, but also because our clients may claim any Aurecon fees incurred as BBBEE spend at the same level towards their own BBBEE certification.”

He concludes by saying: “Going forward, Aurecon remains determined to ensure our participation in the global economy has tangible, lasting benefits for the local economy.”
