Modise announces R2 billion water plan for North West | Infrastructure news

A plan has been put in place to solve water problems in the North West.

North West Premier Thandi Modise announced the water project implementation plan while addressing residents of the Majakaneng community at the weekend. Residents in Majakaneng have been protesting since Thursday.

Modise instructed the Madibeng Local Municipality to redirect water to the Majakaneng community. The protesting Majakaneng residents have rejected water tankers because they believe it is part of the fraudulent tender associated with corruption

According to Modise, the valve that has been directing water to a nearby mine will be redirected to deliver water to Majakaneng. Three boreholes will also be commissioned within the next week to increase water supply to the area.

Modise says the intervention is part of the more than R2 billion water project implementation plan set aside to address water challenges across the North West. R300 million is earmarked for water projects in communities in the Madibeng Local Municipality jurisdiction which are experiencing problems with water provision.
