Sanitation facility to serve over 27 000 Liberians | Infrastructure news

The Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) will construct a sanitation facility in Zwedru, the provincial capital of Grand Gedeh County, to serve over 27 000 residents.

The facility, which will be completed in six months, is being funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Liberia News Agency reported.

The supply of safe drinking water to Zwedru City will follow the rehabilitation and construction of sanitation facilities, with assistance from the AfDB. Kakata and Buchanan, with a combined total cost of US$535,501, will also benefit from this phase.

The AfDB has provided a US$40 million grant to Liberia in support of water and sanitation projects. Of this, only US$3 million has been used, allowing US$37 million to be used for components such as capacity building and water supply to meet the 2015 Millennium Development Goals.

Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony, Grand Gedeh Superintendent Peter Solo thanked the LWSC and AfDB for selecting Zwedru as one of the initial beneficiaries of the AfDB grant.
