South Africa has received a lot of bad press surrounding water-related issues this year. However, South Africa is on track to reaching its Millennium Development Goal for water.
89.9% of South African households reported having access to piped water in the latest General Household Survey, and 63.2% of households rated the quality of water-related services they received as good. Minister of Water and Sanitation Nomvula Mokonyane earlier this year announced a departmental budget of R12.48 billion, with a focus on bulk infrastructure for water and wastewater treatment works. “In order to ensure the delivery of water and sanitation services to all South Africans, we are charged with the responsibility of integrating our work through infrastructure development for the eradication of backlogs and sustained delivery of quality services to the people of South Africa,” she told Parliament.Water infrastructure management handbook
