The Oudtshoorn Municipality says it’s Technical Services Directorate is making strides in the implementation of the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) valued at R20 million for the current financial year ending in June next year.
In a statement released recently the municipality listed its achievements, some of which include the upgrading of the Oudtshoorn Waste Water Treatment Works (WWTW) worth R 5.5 million which has been completed within the first half of the 2014/15 financial year. It added that the upgrading of the De Rust’s WWTW which commenced in the previous financial year has also been completed. The value of this project was R3.3 million. Listing some of the municipality’s future plans the upgrading of the Dysselsdorp WWTW valued at R7.2 million will be done in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 financial years. Another infrastructural project in the pipeline for the 2015/16 and 2016/17 financial years is the upgrade of the Grootkop Solid Waste site worth R12.6 million. Projects which are still in progress include a new irrigation system worth R1.4 million which has been installed at the Blomnek Sport ground in De Rust. The project is according to Technical Services Directorate 95% complete. A new irrigation system for Dysselsdorp sports ground worth R1 400 000 is to be installed in the current financial year. The project will continue in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 financial years with an additional cost of R 4.5 million.The Technical Services Directorate has furthermore reported that the high mast area floodlighting to the value of R1 million will be installed in Rosevalley, Dysselsdorp and De Rust during the current financial year. This would also help in the reduction of criminal activities in the dark areas of the identified informal settlements.
The rehabilitation of roads and storm water valued at R2 335 266 is schedule for the current financial year and will be focusing on the previously disadvantaged areas. This includes paving of Xola Street towards the Bongolethu stadium and the entrance to the Oudtshoorn Thusong Centre together valued at R 1 million. The project is now at the design stage and the construction will commence next year. The construction of a 2ML reservoir pipe work and pump station in De Rust valued at R4 127 940 is 75 % complete the directorate has reported.The De Jager Sports complex’s athletic track will be rehabilitated in the current financial year and the value of the upgrade is R 1.5 million.
