Drivers put through paces at Scania competition | Infrastructure news

Acknowledging the driver is critical because he is the most important ingredient in the transport machinery Scania South Africa once again hosted a successful final at the Nasrec show grounds in Johannesburg to crown its driver of the year.

For the 2014 competition Scania, apart from testing driving skills and truck knowledge, also added total operating costs into the equation.

The competition got underway in April this year with qualifying theory tests to select the regional finalists. From the regional finals the top 24 finalists were then chosen.

At the finals drivers were put through their paces demonstrating both their driving capabilities and knowledge about health and safety issues.

In the truck section the following drivers took the top four positions:
1st place: Nicolaas ‘Kallie’ Truter from Zwartbooisberg Truck in Cape Town.
2nd place: Jaques van Eeden from Oosthuizens in the North-East
3rd place: Jacobus J.Venter from Freight More in Cape Town
4th place: Pather Moonsamy from Bakers Transport in Gauteng
