The winners of the PPC Imaginarium Awards have been announced and art and design enthusiasts can get a glimpse of their work at the Imaginarium Awards exhibition.
The Imaginarium is organised annually and emerging South African artists and designers, permanent residents as well as students, including foreign students with study permits may participate.
The Awards programme focuses on six art and design categories: Sculpture, Jewellery, Industrial Design, Film, Architecture and Fashion.
The awards programme offers its winners a unique combination of financial benefits, mentoring, workshops, exhibition opportunities and promotion in the media as well as allowing for online exposure and sales.
The official opening and announcement of the winners in each category took place on Thursday 22 January 2015 at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) Art gallery, UJ Kingsway Campus, Auckland Park, Johannesburg.
Winners in each category are to receive a cash prize of R50 000.
Imaginarium Awards exhibition
The first Imaginarium Awards exhibition consists of the work of the 96 finalists selected nationally from 477 shortlisted submissions.
The exhibition which is organised and curated in partnership with UJ will be open to the public from Friday 23 January until Friday 13 February 2015. Educational talks on Innovation and Creativity by thought leaders in the world of design and tours of the exhibition will be offered to Schools and universities.
The exhibition will be on public display at the Design Indaba, ICCCT, and Cape Town for the duration of the Design Indaba Expo from 27 February until 1 March 2015. A preview cocktail function is organised by the Design Indaba for the evening of Thursday 26 February. During this event the overall PPC Imaginarium winner will be announced and a cash prize of R100 000 awarded.
The final exhibition will be in collaboration with the Young Blood Gallery at 70 Bree Street, Cape Town. This exhibition will open as part of the First Thursday CT activities on Thursday 5 March and will be open to public viewing until Saturday 21 March 2015.
