Over two hundred families are living in appalling conditions at Pom-fret, a former military base near Vryburg in North West. There is no running water, electricity or health facilities.
The government blames old infrastructure and illegal connections for the lack of electricity. There is no clear indication of when water and electricity will be restored. The families are related to members of former South African Defence Force’s 32 Batalion. They were recruited from Angola to fight against the ANC and SWAPO in Nambia.
