R20m road upgrade to start in CT next week | Infrastructure news

The R20 million upgrade of Amandel Road in Kuils River, Cape Town is expected to kick off at the end of March.

The work on the road between the Bottelary River and Bottelary Road is aimed at addressing the current congestion levels in the area.

The first phase of the project will see the upgrade of the road to a dual carriageway, which will increase capacity and improve traffic flow.

The project will also include the signalisation of the Amandel Road/Annandale Road intersection, and an upgrade of existing signals at the Soneike Mall/Amandel Road intersection.

It is anticipated that work will be completed by the end of November 2015, weather permitting.

“This project forms part of the City’s key interventions to address congestion in the greater Kuils River area. Recent studies have shown that Kuils River is one of the areas that need to be prioritised in terms of transport infrastructure investment,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member: Transport for Cape Town, Councillor Brett Herron.

Although the project teams will strive to minimise the impact on the public during the various construction phases, deviations of the traffic at certain stages will be unavoidable.

The City of Cape Town says it would like to apologise for this inconvenience in advance, and assure residents that the sites will be managed in such a way as to keep delays and disruptions to the minimum.

Ultimately, it is hoped that the temporary inconvenience will be worth the long-term relief that this project will bring to the area.
