1st Annual Integrated Transport Systems Conference | Infrastructure news

It is paramount for South Africa to adopt efficient transport models from international best practices in order to develop the country’s transport system.

To this end, the Intelligence Transfer Centre brings you the 1st Annual Integrated Transport Systems Conference taking place on 13 & 14 May 2015 at the Indaba Hotel in Fourways, Johannesburg.

The two-day conference aims to create a platform that connects government officials with infrastructure, roads and transport stakeholders to achieve a much-needed integrated public transport network in the country.

South African and international speakers have been confirmed for the conference. They include Deidre Ribbonaar, Acting Chief Director: Transport Operations, Western Cape Government, Louis Strydom, Principal: Transport/Logistics/ICT, Development Bank Of Southern Africa, Mantiti Kola, Chief Strategy Officer, Road Accident Fund, Phillip Taaibosch, President, South African National Taxi Council, Dr Edward Munwana, Chief Traffic Officer, Thulamela Local Municipality and Ari Seirlis, CEO, QuadPara Association of South Africa (QASA).

Kuga Namasivayam Kugathas, Director Planning and Design, Australian Capital Territory Government will present via satellite link while José Viegas, Secretary-General International Transport Forum (France) will lend international perspective to the event.

Key issues to be discussed include integrating Areyeng with other modes of transport in the city of Tshwane for better mobility. This will be presented by Motsipiri Mothapo, Acting Director: IRPTN/BRT System, City Of Tshwane and Mmakanaga Shai, Deputy Director: Transport Stakeholder Liaison & Communication Management, City of Tshwane.

Other conference highlights will include transport in the Western Cape, transforming Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality into an Aerotropolis by 2030, managing the financial structuring challenges when implementing an integrated transport network, mobilising people with disabilities, scrutinising how the minibus taxi industry potentially fits into the transport network, discussing future plans for expanding integrated transport networks in rural areas and the role of the Road Accident Fund in addressing the trauma associated with road crashes.
