The inaugural flight from Wonderboom National Airport in Tshwane to Cape Town International Airport will take off this Sunday, August 16.
The Airlink Flight SA8673 will take-off from the Capital City to the Mother City on Sunday at 17:45, the City of Tshwane announced. The flight schedule will include three return flights per day. Flights depart from Wonderboom for Cape Town at 06:45 with a second morning flight at 09:45, then in the afternoon departing Wonderboom at 17:45. Flights from Cape Town to Wonderboom depart at 06:45 with afternoon flights at 15:00 and 17:30.The initial plan for the direct route, announced in May by the mayor of the City of Tshwane, Kgosientso Ramokgopa, was delayed due to issues with fuel shortages.
“All the necessary upgrades have been completed and the challenges relating to the shortage of fuel have been sorted out,” City of Tshwane spokesperson Selby Moeketsi Bokaba said. The direct route will now offer passengers from Tshwane, Limpopo and North West provinces the convenience of shorter travel times, without the need to commute to airports like OR Tambo, especially during peak-hour traffic.
