Johannesburg International Motor Show becomes SA Festival of Motoring | Infrastructure news

The SA Festival of Motoring will replace the canned bi-annual Johannesburg International Motor Show (JIMS).

Inspired by the UK’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, the new event is scheduled to welcome in the new-look Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit and International Convention Centre, currently being refurbished at a cost of around R300 million to the new owners.

A broad array of ancillary events are planned for the festival, including driving demonstrations, parades of vintage cars, family events, music, celebrities and cuisine, to go with entertainment, motorsport demonstrations and vehicle drive opportunities.

The new event is a joint venture between South African Shows Messe Frankfurt and the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA).

Depending on the success of the inaugural festival, the event may become a permanent, annual fixture on the South African motoring calendar.

The automotive aftermarket will also be represented, alongside passenger car and commercial vehicle OEMs and related suppliers.

Held every second year, JIMS was cancelled in May this year as its costs soared.
