New truck stop in Pinetown | Infrastructure news

In an effort to reduce road accidents involving heavy motor vehicles, MEC for transport, community safety and liaison, Willies Mchunu, joined commuter bus transport company the Metro Group to officially open a truck stop in Pinetown.

The facility is in line with government’s programme of building new truck stops to improve truck transport efficiencies, while simultaneously promoting road safety and providing a convenient resting place for truckers.

Mchunu thanked the Metro Group for the facility, saying that the truck stop facility is a ground-breaking development for road safety and will help to prevent accidents.

“As government, we appreciate that the Metro Group is on board to address driver fatigue by offering truck drivers a good place to rest. We are of the view that the truck stop facility will play an important role in reducing the high rate of collisions involving heavy motor vehicles on our roads,” he said.

“We are happy that you have come on board to tackle the crisis of road safety in the road freight industry,” he concluded.
