The Eden District Municipality in the Southern Cape is taking steps to combat a deadly bacteria, in the Kaaimans River at Wilderness, near George.

The bacteria, which is transmitted from shellfish into open wounds, has already caused the death of an elderly man who went swimming in the river recently. SANParks and other environmental agencies are on full alert following the discovery of the bacteria.
