A community in Munsie-ville, Krugersdorp, west of Johannesburg has been racked by protest for a second day as the municipality tried to disconnect illegal connections and restore electricity to those who pay for it.
Electricity is a basic need in South Africa. While Eskom has said the lights will stay on for now. Many still do not have access to this service. Leading to cable theft which adds more strain onto the already burdened grid. The City of Johannesburg loses 30 million rand to cable theft.
