Rural communities in two municipalities in the Ehlanzeni District will soon be beneficiaries of newly constructed sanitation facilities

Rural communities in two municipalities in the Ehlanzeni District will soon be beneficiaries of newly constructed sanitation facilities.

The Department of Water and Sanitation is currently constructing 712 double structure toilets in villages in both municipalities.

Upon completion, the project would have benefitted 391 households in Bushbuckridge Local Municipality and 330 households in the Nkomazi Local Municipality.

Through this project, the Department is addressing the lack of proper sanitation in most areas, especially among the rural communities.

Good sanitation facilities are crucial in promoting a healthy and hygienic lifestyle and also reduce potential diseases.

“The Department requests and urges communities to look after their facilities; they must not be used as storerooms for tools but for sanitation purposes.

“The toilets are meant to restore human dignity and in return must be utilised in a dignified way,” says Themba Khoza, assistant spokesperson for the department.
