Engagement leads to better transport policies | Infrastructure news

Road Freight Association (RFA) chairman, Nico van der Westhuizen, has reiterated the need for the private sector to work closely with government, for the betterment of the road freight industry as a whole.

Providing the introduction and welcome note to the minister of Transport, Dipuo Peters, at the annual RFA Convention in Limpopo, van der Westhuizen said that the RFA had always maintained that a strong relationship with government was vital. “We believe that it is essential that government engages with the trucking industry to create the best transport policy for the country,” he said.

He added that much is said to happen on the legislative front, from the draft National Freight Logistics Strategy to the Green Transport Strategy. “We are extremely pleased that the RFA convention 2016 is able to provide the platform for the minister to share her plans for the road freight industry with us. We also share the minister’s concerns about the many truck accidents on the roads and we hope that together, we can find a viable solution for the industry and the economy as a whole,” he said.
