30-day payment for infrastructure service providers | Infrastructure news

MoneyGauteng MEC Jacob Mamabolo has unveiled a direct email for 30 day payment queries to ensure timely payment for goods and services.

The communication channel is set to assist service providers whose payments are unduly delayed by officials in the Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development.

Unveiling the 30 Days Payment Query E-mail, Mamabolo said queries should be addressed to the MEC and not the officials of the department. This is part of ensuring accountability and administrative justice by providing the executive authority of the department with information on unfair treatment of suppliers.

However, the government also reiterated that it expects only quality service delivery from its suppliers and will not tolerate the delivery of shoddy work since this affects the quality of life of Gauteng communities. All service providers must know that the work they do affects the image of government in the public arena and must therefore act responsibly, it was said.

A special team of officials has been assembled and will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and the Head of Department.

Mamabolo encouraged companies that are owed by his department to use the e-mail to register their payment complaints, saying that he would be personally responding to the queries and would hold the relevant managers and projects managers to account.

The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Infrastructure Lindiwe Lasindwa was also present and said as a public representative she would be taking up payment issues on behalf of unfairly treated suppliers.

The HOD had also earlier made a business model presentation to the meeting in order to help suppliers understand the department they are servicing. The adopted Infrastructure Delivery System was outlined to the meeting.

The e-mail address, which is already active, is MECDID.30dayspayment@gauteng.gov.za .
