Vlakfontein: SA's most advanced landfill site - Infrastructure news

Waste management company Averda discusses its Vlakfontein landfill site located near Vereeniging in Gauteng. The site has an approximate lifespan of  30 years and is the first landfill to be built in the area in 20 years.

Neville Chetty, Vlakfontein’s technical manager, says the site takes various types of waste including type 1 and hazardous waste. He also says that once waste arrives, the process to get it into the landfill is strict and that waste manifest documents are always required.

Sales and Logistics Manager, Brent Mahoney discusses Averda’s objectives to build a waste park and says, “I don’t think there is a landfill site that will come close to this in South Africa.”
