Despite delays in Phase two of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project, Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane says that by 2025, the project will “definitely” be completed.

The project comprises of three main facilities:

  1. The Katse Dam
  2. Muela Hydropower Station
  3. The Mohale Dam

These facilities yield electricity for the Basotho and provide 780 m cubic litres of water to South Africa on an annual basis. Mokonyane says that Phase two of the project, which was launched in 2014, will provide South Africa with 1.27 bn cubic litres of water upon completion.
