The Department of Environmental Affairs’ green department building in Pretoria recently won the Afrisam Architecture Award for its eco-friendly approach to buildings in the environment.
Mbulaheni Edwin Maseda, the department’s director of facilities management, said they needed a building that reflected who they are, in terms of their key mandate – protecting the environment.
The department achieved a 6 star rating for the design of the building and the building itself and is a step towards achieving the ultimate goal of sustainability.
