South African Airways SAA) cabin crew downed tools last week Thursday demanding a R2 250 ($170) daily meal allowance among other demands.
South African Cabin Crew Association (SACCA), President Zazi Nsibanyoni-Mugambi said last week, that they had every intention of striking until their demands are met. SAA spokesperson Tlali Tlali confirmed however that the strike was over following a court order. SAA Cargo uses its belly space of SAA’s passenger flights for cargo carriage. The unlawful strike resulted in a cancellation of 50 flights including 28 domestic flights on Wednesday.According to Tlali, the suspension of service caused a substantial loss of revenue for the already struggling airline. “The numbers have not been quantified but they will be substantial amounts,” said the spokesperson.
