R600 million housing project kicks off in Ekurhuleni | Infrastructure news

The City of Ekurhuleni has started construction on a R600 million housing project. 

Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Human Settlements, Lesiba Mpya, declared the ground ready for the massive construction of the 1 352 houses during a sod-turning ceremony recently.

The City’s contractors Murray and Dickson (M&D) Construction and NJR Projects, are on site to work on the approximately 11 hectares of land owned by the City. The new settlement will consist of eight different high-rise type blocks with 18 blocks of RDP units and eight social units.

Each RDP block will have four-storey walk-ups with 582 two-bedroom units and 296 parking bays.

The 770 social housing units will comprise of 10-storey high-rise buildings made up of 320 bachelor and 450 two bedroomed units and 264 parking bays.

Residents from the Little Maseru and Vlakplaas informal settlements are set to benefit from the RDP units while those in Vosloorus Extension 9 will benefit from the social houses.
