The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality recently unveiled six new parks in the Kwanobuhle area, on the outskirts of Uitenhage in the Eastern Cape.

The parks, which were once dump sites labelled as an eyesore to the community, have been converted into beautiful playgrounds.

The newly renovated parks are equipped with gym equipment that will assist, encourage and benefit the community to exercise in order to fight obesity and ailments.

Mayoral Committee Member for Public Health, Councillor Lance Grootboom says the new facilities will assist in keeping children away from dirty dumping areas.

“This new facility will provide many hours of entertainment for the children and aid in keeping them off the streets. All the parks have been fenced to provide safety as well as assist in safeguarding parks equipment,” he notes.

Grootboom adds that the opening of the playgrounds is another step forward for the municipality in converting and beautifying previously disadvantaged township areas.
