Founded in 1996, Quality Filtration Systems (QFS) is a specialist company focusing on advanced water treatment applications in the municipal and industrial markets in Southern Africa. The mainly membrane-based solutions offered by QFS are starting to become a standard in South Africa for applications that include seawater desalination, wastewater reuse and brackish water treatment.

From its headquarters and manufacturing facility in the Strand, Western Cape, QFS provides complete design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, as well as operations and maintenance capabilities for its water treatment equipment range. Since 1999, QFS has been the South African partner for the globally recognised MEMCOR brand of ultrafiltration membranes, which is gaining rapid acceptance locally.

QFS was able to provide equipment and support to the seawater desalination plants recently erected in Cape Town. The preferred rental model specified for these projects provides the client with water security without needing to own or operate the desalination equipment.

QFS offers portable containerised reverse osmosis (RO) units producing up to 1 000 m3/day of desalinated water. RO provides effective removal of dissolved salts from seawater. A key benefit of these plants is that there are minimal infrastructure requirements, which facilitates fast and easy mobilisation. A further plus is that minimal site operator involvement is needed, with plant production controlled via a storage tank level switch.
