BTech engineering graduates from around the country were recently honoured for their outstanding academic achievements by the Institute of Professional Engineering Technologists (IPET).
The awards, which take place annually, honour the best male and female graduate across all engineering disciplines, from each university, as well as the top achievers across all the universities. The top male achiever was Sandro Duarte Cesar, who graduated in Chemical Engineering at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). He had an average of 84% and travelled from Angola to attend the ceremony, during which he received a 75 mm gold-plated medal and a framed certificate. The top performing lady was Asavela Sigonya from the University of Johannesburg (UJ). She graduated in Electrical Engineering with an average of 82.75% and also received a medal and certificate. She is currently a Master’s Candidate at UJ.
