Water storage in Limpopo not yet recovered, call for water users to save | Infrastructure news

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) has cautioned water users to continue using water sparingly as the dam levels haven’t improved satisfactorily due to the scarcity of rain in Limpopo.

The province’s average dam levels are at 59.6%, showing a slight increase compared to previously recorded reading of 58.5%.

A summary of the Water Management Area (WMA) for the province reflects an increase to 65,9% compared to when water levels were 65.1%.

The Olifants now stands at 63.9%.The Polokwane Water Supply Systems is at 82.9% showing a decline when compared to 86.0% previously. The Luvuvhu Water Supply Systems is showing an increase sitting at 84.8%.

Nandoni Dam currently stands at 93.16% which bring some hope to the communities however the department of Water and Sanitation still encourages the people to continue using water sparingly. Ebenezer Dam is at 22.71%, while Tzaneen Dam has dropped to 5,7% and Mokolo Dam increased to 60.20%.

De Hoop Dam is at 83.60%, showing some improvement from last week’s level of 80.89%.

The overall readings of the province suggests a dire need for more rains to fill the dams, with Tzaneen dam and Ebenezer dams sitting below 50%.

“Against this background, it is importantthat all water users should double their efforts to save more water,” DWS said in a statement.
