Minister de Lille and Auditor General announced as CESA Infrastructure Indaba 2023 keynote speakers | Infrastructure news

Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Patricia de Lille and the Auditor General of South Africa, Tsakani Maluleke will headline the CESA Infrastructure Indaba and Exhibition 2023 scheduled for 9 and 10 March at the Durban ICC in KwaZulu-Natal.

Sharing the news, CESA President Olu Soluade stated: “We are excited to have the Minister and Auditor General coming to our event in a period where we are advocating for increased and informed spending on infrastructure and professionalization of the state. We are optimistic that the inclusion of the heads of the 2 institutions will contribute towards increased collaborating with government and all industry stakeholders,” says Soluade.

“The purpose of the annual Infrastructure Indaba is to share ideas on optimising efficiencies in infrastructure investment and implementation while ensuring investments are sustainable,” states CESA CEO Chris Campbell.

The audience who will benefit from this information-rich event include public officials, engineering consultants, suppliers and contractors involved in all aspects of infrastructure development, maintenance, and service delivery.

“Critical to the success of this important event will be deliberations between industry partners, client bodies and funding agencies, all pursuing the same objective, albeit from differing perspectives” states Campbell.

The session on Transformation and Development will be facilitated by Tembeka Zinkofu from NH Consulting Engineers with speakers including Andre van der Walt from SMEC, Mahendren Manicum from Naidu Consulting, Ismail Essa from SANRAL, Prof Mohamed Mostafa from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) and SAICE President Steven Kaplan.

The session on Infrastructure – Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan will be facilitated by CESA Board Member Vishal Haripersad with speakers including Prince Moyo from Eskom Transmission Group, William Joughin from SRK Consulting, Thiago Almeida from Nedbank and Siboniso Mbhele from KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport.

The session on Procurement and Performance Management Practices in Public Infrastructure speakers are Auditor General Tsakani Maluleke; Chief Procurement Officer at the National Treasury, Mendoe Ntswahlana; CEO of the Construction Industry Development Board (cidb), Bongani Dladla; and Carol Coetzee, HOD of the KwaZulu-Natal Treasury.

The session on Leadership and Technology will be facilitated by CESA KZN Branch chairperson Rudi von Fintel with speakers including Renee Petersen, CESA YPF national chairperson; Sibusiso Mjwara, President of IMESA; Sikhulile Nhassengo, CESA Transformation Committee Member; and Richard Ahlschlager, Technical Director for Energy, Resources and Manufacturing at Zutari.

The session on the Development of Transport Resources will be facilitated by CESA Board Member Naomi Naidoo with speakers including Portia Derby, group chief executive of Transnet SOC Ltd; Dumisani Nkabinde, regional manager for SANRAL’s Eastern Region; and Dr Derek Verrier, operations evaluation specialist at the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA).

The 2022 Indaba was a huge success with keynote speaker Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwane stating: “Consulting engineers and other experts in the field of construction are therefore vital to our infrastructure drive. You have the experience and expertise needed for the country to identify and take advantage of the opportunities in infrastructure as well as prepare for the inevitable obstacles”.
