Johannesburg Water Announces Unplanned Water Shutdown in November | Infrastructure news

Johannesburg Water has declared an unexpected water shutdown scheduled for November 1st, affecting various suburbs in the Roodepoort and Randburg regions. The impromptu interruption is necessary to address repairs on the GRP pipe connected to the outlet of the Honeydew Reservoir.

Reason Behind the Shutdown and Affected Areas

The primary cause for this unplanned water interruption is the repair of the GRP pipe located on the outlet of the Honeydew Reservoir. Suburbs that will be affected by this shutdown include Bellairs Park, Boskruin, Boundary Park, Bromhof, Bushill Estate, Cosmo City, Honeydew Park, Honeydew Manor, Hoogland, Huntershill, Kevin Ridge, Kysands, Laser Park, Noordhang, Northriding, Northwold, Olivedale, Randparkrif, Sharonlea, Radiokop, Sonnedal, Honeydew Ridge, Sundowner, Tres Jolie, Zandspruit, Harveston, Mogale City, and Kim Bult. Residents in these areas can expect no water supply from 08:00 to 18:00.

Johannesburg Water System Update

Johannesburg Water has also provided an update on the current status of its systems, highlighting challenges faced by reservoirs and towers.

  • President Park Reservoir and Tower: The reservoir level recovered overnight and remained stable throughout the day. To conserve water and build storage for Tuesday, the reservoir outlet will be throttled at 90% from 21:00 to 04:00.
  • Rabie Ridge: The reservoir level recovered slightly overnight and remained stable during the day. Similar to President Park, the reservoir outlet will be throttled at 90% from 21:00 to 04:00 to preserve water for the day.
  • Errand Reservoirs 1 & 2 and Tower: Both reservoirs and the tower remained stable throughout the day, supplying water as usual. However, customers are urged to use water sparingly.
  • Diepsloot Reservoir: The reservoir level remains stable during the day, but the outlet will be throttled at 90% from 21:00 to 04:00 to conserve water and build storage for the day. Some areas in the supply zone may experience poor water pressure.
  • Linden 1 Reservoir and Tower: The reservoir level stayed stable during the day and is supplying water normally. However, the tower level remains critically low.
  • Randjieslaagte Reservoir: The reservoir slightly recovered overnight and remained stable during the day. To preserve water and build storage for the day, the reservoir outlet will be throttled at 90% from 21:00 to 04:00.
