The African biomass sector is growing | Infrastructure news

A series of biomass plants are set to be built throughout the continent.

Biomass power plant firm DP CleanTech has secured a partnership with Cambridge Industries that will see biomass projects established in several African countries.

Projects are already in the pipeline for Ethiopia, Djibouti, Senegal, Uganda and Kenya. The company will supply a turnkey waste-to-energy power plant for the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCo) in Addis Ababa as its first project in the region. The plant will be located adjacent to the Reppie Landfill, Ethiopia’s largest landfill site. It will process the garbage brought to the site to produce electricity.

DP CleanTech will work in consortium with China National Electrical Engineering Corporation on the Ethiopian landfill project. The firm spearheaded the operations of over 30% of the biomass plants in China.

Cambridge Industries’ Managing Partner Samuel Alemayehu says, “Using DP’s technology and their implementation expertise, this pioneering project in Africa will set new standards which we can deploy throughout the region.”
