Angola is set to establish a waste agency | Infrastructure news

Angola plans to create a waste agency tasked with regulating, monitoring and laying the basis for a selective and differentiated collection system.

Angola will launch the Programa Angola Limpa which will run until 2017, under which the waste agency will be created. This is in preparation for the creation of infrastructure to improve waste collection of urban areas ahead of selective collection, recycling, development and industrial development, Angola Press reported.

Minister of state and head of the Civil Affairs Office of the Presidency, Edeltrudes Costa, made the announcement on behalf of the president at the second International Congress on Sustainable Management of Hazardous Waste.

According to Edeltrudes, financial resources need to be organised to cover the ambitious project. It is estimated that the project may reach US$6 billion by 2020.  He also pointed out the need for a massive awareness campaign in schools, communities, businesses, as well as the need for responsible policies.
