Africa Water and Sanitation Crisis - Infrastructure news

The World Bank says Africa is facing an ongoing, endemic water and sanitation crisis. Only 62% of Africans have access to safe water and only 60% have access to adequate sanitation, the lowest rates in the world. The lack of clean water and basic sanitation is responsible for thousands of preventable child deaths each year. Millions more suffer from waterborne illnesses, such as typhoid, worms and diarrhea. To discuss these problems, VOA’s Vincent Makori is joined by Chris Williams, executive director of the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council. The council supports global efforts to improve sanitation and hygiene for vulnerable sections of society, with a special focus on communities in Africa and Asia.
