Kaduna State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources Zakariya Shamaki announced that the federal government has completed the construction of a plastic recycling plant in the state.

Shamaki spoke at the ongoing ministerial press briefing on activities of the various ministries in Kaduna, Nigeria, that machineries needed for the plant to effectively function were already on ground awaiting installation.

The commissioner said that the state government has produced over 525 000 seedlings for the afforestation programme while about 100 hectares of land has been cleared, 30 hectares in thinning operation, 120 hectares for coppice reduction and 22 km was fire-traced in the plantations.

As part of efforts to the state clean, the Commissioner said the state has procured 23 refuse collection trucks and leased them to 21 contractors so as to enhance efficiency.

He also disclosed that 200 units metal waste bins and 100 units plastic bins was procured for distribution to selected commercial areas to assist in proper packaging and storage of refuse generated the areas.
