Polokwane struck by severe water shortage | Infrastructure news

Dripping tap

Polokwane Municipality says water levels at all its reservoirs are critically low, with some of them already empty.

Polokwane Municipality says water levels at all its reservoirs are critically low, with some of them already empty.

This follows the shutdown of supply by Lepelle Northern Water to allow for repair work on the Specon pipeline from the Olifantspoort Plant explains the Polokwane spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene.

“Repairs were completed by midnight on Thursday and normal pumping to Polokwane resumed immediately,” Chuene notes.

The increased demand of water by consumers following the shutdown has made it difficult for reservoirs to fill up water enough for normal supply to resume in all areas.

Some parts of the municipality are already reported to be experiencing shortage or low pressure. Affected areas include Flora Park, Serala View, Ster Park, Bendor , Thornhil, Madiba Park, Legae la Batho, parts of Seshego zone 2, 3, 8 and 5.

Water tankers are being deployed to move around the affected areas.

Water treatment plants at Dalmada along the R71 to Mankweng and Seshego Zone 4 are open for consumers with means of transport to get water from 06:00 -22:00 daily.
