In a statement released on Friday afternoon, Molefe criticised Madonsela’s report and said that it was regrettable that the report was “prepared in haste to meet a deadline related to the public protector’s own departure from office.”
“I wish to reiterate that this is not an admission of wrongdoing on my part,” he said. Molefe called the report unfair, said it painted him as corrupt and failed to afford him the opportunity to respond. However, he felt confident that in time he would be able to show that he had done nothing wrong and that his name would be clear. “I wish to reiterate that this act is not an admission of wrongdoing on my part. It is rather what I feel to be the correct thing to do in the interests of the company and good corporate governance,” he said.
