SA society blasé about drought, says water expert - Infrastructure news

Those who have been adversely affected by South Africa’s current drought can expect little relief in the coming months, according to the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

Little rainfall is predicted over the summer season and experts also believe that the situation is likely to worsen.

Francois Engelbrecth from the CSIR says that temperatures are rising rapidly in Africa, and has risen approximately two degrees Celsius per century over the last 50 years in South Africa. This was a case of a three degree increase in Botswana, he added.

Scientists warn that if water is not preserved sufficiently very soon, the consequences will be severe.
